Abstract
Introduction: Congenital Lobar Emphysema (CLE) is a life-threatening condition due to lung hyperinflation that lead to progressive respiratory distress. However, the conservative approach is mostly preferred due to the difficulty in the surgical strategy.
Case Description: We reported a male newborn aged 55 days referred to our emergency with progressive shortness of breath diagnosed with CLE. Urgent surgery was elected due to deteriorating clinical conditions despite optimal ventilator and medical therapies. We performed the left superior lobectomy through the thoracotomy approach. There were no difficulties or complications during surgery and postoperatively. The patient was discharged on the seventh day with both lungs perfectly expanded on radiology evaluation.
Conclusion: CLE is a rare congenital pulmonary anomaly that might develop into a life-threatening condition. Surgical management is recommended in severe cases or when conservative management has failed.
